President’s Pride of Performance recipient, Ustad Ashraf Sharif Khan, got his musical training from his illustrious father Ustad Sharif Khan Poonchwaley of the Poonch gharana. As a child prodigy, he gave his first public performance at the age of 10, collecting accolades from there on hehas performed at most prestigious platforms worldwide, to critical acclaim and has also received numerous awards.
Ustad Ashraf Sharif Khan’s style is characterized by aesthetics, sensitivity, dynamic rhythmic development and technical proficiency. The Veena ang, of his sitar is undoubtedly an inheritance from Ustad Sharif Khan Poonchwaley.
At present settled in Germany and experiments with other genres of jazz and world music alongside his solo career.
