He belongs to the Jaipur-Senia Gharana. He gave his first performance when he was only 10 years old. He learned music from Ustad Ahmed Baksh, Ustad Ghani khan, Ustad Jamal Khan Bhartia, Ustad Akhtar Hussain who is also present here. His grandfather Ustad Yaqoob Khan and father, Ustad Abid Hussain were also instrumental in his learning.
