Achieving recognition for her talent with PTV in the 1980s few people know that she started her career at the tender age of nine, when she sang for the film Darwaza Khula Rakhna written by her father. Her performance drew acclaim and her potential was immediately recognized by producer Nisar Haider, who gave Humera her first break on television where she was given the opportunity to perform the kalaam of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai on PTV Karachi. After this she was regularly seen on composer Niaz Ahmed’s music programme Khush Rang. In the1980’s Humera’s voice gave life to many actresses in both Urdu and Punjabi feature films. She rose to fame in the late 1980s with appearances in the popular show Silver Jubilee.
