Ghulam Murtaza Khan Niazi was born in Karachi in 1954. His family hails from Mianwali. He started learning music at the age of 20 from Ustad Mohammad Omar Baloch.
Murtaza sings khayal, thumri, ghazal and kafi and has recorded programmes for television. He also runs a music school which was founded by his father. The school imparts training to music enthusiasts.
