Blessed with a unique blend of resonant voice and a lasting passion for music, Ghulam Abbas was born in Multan, Pakistan, to a conservative family.
Like some of his predecessors, he did not possess any musical background. God Almighty bestowed him a very impressive singing voice and he used it to recite hamd and naat in public gathering as a child.
Ghulam Abbas started his career as playback singer in a Punjabi film but got breakthrough from an Urdu film. He was instructed in music by the great Mehdi Hassan.
